Welcome to The Makerspace 97058
Our Mission
Our mission is to support and promote the teaching, learning, and practicing of art and crafts.
Our Vision
We believe that everyone in our community should have access to the tools, equipment, and space to create, experiment, and learn. Whether you're a hobbyist, a professional, or simply curious about exploring a new skill, the cost of equipment and the space required can be significant barriers. With limited access to arts education and dedicated creative spaces in schools, The Makerspace 97058 will offer a vital resource for students and lifelong learners alike, providing opportunities to develop hands-on skills, foster creativity, and bring ideas to life.

FAQs
Our facility is located at 4510 Browns Creek Road in The Dalles.

Do I have to be a member to use the Makerspace?
Yes. You can use the Makerspace as a student while participating in a class or workshop, but otherwise you have to be a member.
If I am a member, can I bring friends or family members to use the space when I am there?
No. All users (other than students participating in a class) must be members themselves. We may have family memberships in the future.
Can I let someone else use my membership if I am not actively using the Makerspace?
No.
Why do you charge fees for using some of the equipment?
There are two main reasons. First, some equipment uses electricity, or other consumable material like oxygen or gas that we will have to replenish. Second, equipment needs maintenance and sometimes replacement. The fees we charge go into funds which will be used to ensure equipment continues to be available to users.
How do I make sure a piece of equipment is available when I need to use it?
We will have an online sign up system where you reserve a block of time to use a piece of equipment or station. If there is a fee, you will pay that online when you reserve your slot.
Can I take tools and equipment home to work on my project?
No. Equipment and tools must stay at the Makerspace unless expressly permitted.
What are the “open studio” hours?
As a grassroots community project driven by members, the open studio hours may vary until we can hire a facilities manager to keep the Makerspace open more regular hours. If you plan to use the Makerspace on a regular schedule, you can help us be open regular hours (unlocking when you arrive and making sure the buildings are empty before locking up when you leave). Members are encouraged to work together and communicate while we work these details out.
Can I teach workshops at the Makerspace?
Yes! Members can teach classes or offer tutorials, limited to 10 students. You must offer a 10% discount to Makerspace members. The facility use fee is $100 (10 hours of instruction time) and includes use of community tools and equipment for your students. You must reserve any equipment and pay any equipment fees, just as you would for your own use as a member. Beyond that, how you manage your class, what you charge, is up to you. To arrange classes, please contact themakerspace97058@gmail.com.
Can I take classes at the Makerspace if I am not a member?
Yes. If you are a member you will receive a 10% discount.
If I have a problem at the Makerspace, who should I contact?
If you or another member is injured, call 911. If you have a problem with equipment or the facilities, we will have volunteer stewards who are familiar with each area of the Makerspace. You can contact Serena at themakerspace97058@gmail.com if you are unsure who to reach out to.
